Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

This wiki supports the MLGSCA Spring 2007 Continuing Education course, "Incorporating Web 2.0 Tools into the Research Process: Making the Most of Instruction & Outreach Efforts." Remember we have set up a course blog, too.

This course is designed to encourage health information professionals to use Web 2.0 tools in teaching and outreach activities in their institution. The course assumes that participants have working knowledge of Web 2.0 tools, such as social bookmarking (e.g. Flickr, del.icio.us), blogs, wikis, etc. The instructors will provide examples and hands-on activities that demonstrate how these tools can be used to facilitate the research process, specifically, searching, collaborating, organizing and publishing.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  • explain how Web 2.0 tools can be incorporated into the research process;
  • use Web 2.0 tools (e.g. blogs, social networking web sites) to identify people with the same research interests;
  • use Flicker to demonstrate the power of controlled vocabularies in research databases to users of the library;
  • identify Web 2.0 tools that can facilitate publishing;
  • identify Web 2.0 tools that can be used in instructional and outreach efforts; and
  • create an action plan for providing the use of Web 2.0 tools through outreach and instruction to library users.

Please continue the conversation we had in the course and let others know what you are doing to incorporate new tools into your instruction and outreach efforts!
